The Analyzing and Interpreting Literature examination does not require familiarity with specific works, but assumes that candidates have read widely and perceptively in poetry, drama, fiction, and nonfiction. Questions are based on passages taken primarily from American and British literature. An optional essay section may be taken in addition to the multiple-choice test.
